Most floor damage is local: a few boards under a leaky dishwasher, a strip where a wall came out, a black pet stain in one corner. You don't need a new floor. You need those boards replaced and the whole thing refinished together.
What we repair
- Water damage from appliances, radiators, plants or roof leaks
- Pet urine stains that have gone black into the wood
- Patching where a wall, closet, vent or old fireplace hearth was removed
- Cracked, split, cupped or loose boards
- Squeaks and movement
- Wide gaps between boards
- Burn marks, deep gouges and dents
- Bad work from a previous installer: uneven boards, wrong direction, unlevel transitions
How a repair is done
- Damaged boards are cut out cleanly along the grain.
- New boards of the same species and width are laced into the surrounding floor, staggered so there's no straight seam.
- The repaired area, or usually the whole room, is sanded flat.
- Stain is matched to the existing color, or the whole room is refinished in a new one.
- Finish coats go on top.
For a repair to truly disappear, the whole room usually needs to be refinished. Spot-finishing a patch in the middle of a floor almost always shows. We'll be upfront about which option makes sense for your floor and budget.
Old wood, matching species
Older homes in Union and Essex counties often have narrow 2¼" red oak strip or old-growth pine. We source matching stock for these so the repair isn't a different width or grain.
Repair before or after a water event?
After. Wood needs to dry out fully, sometimes several weeks, before it's repaired and refinished, or the new boards will cup. We can inspect early, tell you what to expect, and schedule the work once moisture readings come down.
